United lined up: Eric Grimes; Lewie Coyle, Charlie Taylor; Simon Lenighan, Ross Killock, Lewis Turner; Nathan Turner, Luke Parkin, Lewis Walters, Lewis Cook, Alex Mowatt. Tyler Denton replaced Luke Parkin, Afolabi Coker took over from Lewis Cook and Chris Dawson came on for Alex Mowatt in the sixtieth minute and then Smith Tiesse came on for Lewie Coyle in the seventy-second minute. Eoghan Stokes, Alex Purver and Brad Dixon remained unused on the bench. The Boston United starting team was Ashley Timms; Conor Marshall, Netan Sansara; Gary Mills, Scott Garner, Stefan Galinski; Ian Ross, Charley Sanders, Ricky Miller, Marc Newsham, Ben Fairclough. At half-time Sam Vince replaced Ashley Timms in goal, Spencer Weir-Daley came on for Netan Sansar, Carl Piergianni came on for Stefan Galinski, James Reed replaced Ian Ross, Jordan Nuttell replaced Charley Sanders and trialist Billy Bennett came on for Ben Fairclough. Their final change was made in the sixty-second minute when Ben Milnes came on for Gary Mills. United started the game strongly with Nathan Turner skimming the crossbar but it was Boston that took the lead after twelve minutes when Marc Newsham, who had just returned from Russia where he had represented Great Britain in the World University Games, latched on to a through ball from Ben Fairclough to beat Eric Grimes, the Leeds keeper with a low shot. United were soon level as nine minutes later as Lewis Cook ghosted into the penalty area to beat Ashley Timms in the Boston goal with a looping volley. Soon afterwards Leeds almost took the lead when Lewis Walters outmuscled Scott Garner to beat Timms, only to see his shot rebound from the crossbar. Leeds remained on the attack with Charlie Taylor, Lewis Walters and Luke Parkin all going close and just before the break Alex Mowatt thought he had scored with a curling shot but Ashley Timms acrobatically tipped the ball over the bar. Lewis Walters had his shot deflected by Conor Marshall, but Scott Garner went close and Marc Newsham saw an eighteen yard speculator disappear into the crowd. With just two minutes left on the clock trialist Billy Bennett won the game for the home side when he beat Eric Grimes from fifteen yards.
